Vanish #3

Issue three of Vanish arrives with one of the most unsettling cover images of 2022 — a long-haired figure in dark armor, face grotesquely warped with raw, pulsing flesh and twin streams of crackling yellow-green energy where their eyes should be, flanked by looming, massive hands closing in from the shadows. Ryan Stegman's pencils and JP Mayer's inks give the image a visceral, almost sculptural intensity, while Sonia Oback's coloring makes those glowing eyes burn off the page. Donny Cates and Stegman's creator-owned series from Image is clearly not pulling any punches.
