Vampire Tales #3

Marvel's Vampire Tales Volume 3 collects some of the publisher's most atmospheric horror storytelling, and this 2011 trade paperback wears its dark credentials right on its sleeve. The grayscale cover — rendered by Bob Larkin and Tony DeZuniga — depicts a lone, knife-wielding figure locked in fierce combat against two gaunt, menacing vampires, the stark monochromatic palette giving the struggle a genuinely unsettling, pulp-noir feel. Inside, writer Tony Isabella and artist/inker Ernie Chua bring "The Heart Devourer" and more to life, with lettering by Jean Izzo rounding out a creative team that knew how to make horror comics sing.
