Valentine #8 February 1964
In "Here's Hoping," a quiet moment on a London fire escape sparks a surprising connection between Eve and the boy upstairs, drawn together by secrets and small lies. José González’s expressive artwork brings warmth and subtle tension to a story where honesty feels as fragile as a whispered promise.

Eve thinks there is a burglar on the fire escape, but it is just the boy upstairs. He says he was trying to sneak into his room without his key, but Eve doesn't believe him. She gets him to admit that he's having an affair with a girl and he wants to keep it quiet. But he seems to spend all his time over the next few weeks with Eve, getting advice on how to deal with his girlfriend. Eventually, Eve learns he made up the story about having a girlfriend.
