Sam gives up his job as a draper's assistant to become a painter, but fails to sell a single painting. He gets his job back, but quits again to become a gambler. Jill asks Mr. Jones to take Sam back again as a draper's assistant and he agrees on the condition that she marry Sam since he was just trying to prove he was good enough for her.
