Julie had saved up her money for a holiday to Venice where she fell in love with Marcello. He outlined his plans to restore a home ruined by the war years ago, but it would take money. When her holiday was over they promise to write each other until she returns, but Honey warns her that the only way for her to be happy when she gets back to England is to forget him. She never receives any letters from Marcello and her own letters are returned unopened. When she returns to Venice, she and Marcello discover than Honey had intercepted their letters because she had wanted Marcello for herself.
