Valentine #23 December 1961
In "Alone," Dene—raised in isolation to inherit her father’s business—finds herself unexpectedly drawn into a fleeting moment of connection during a solitary dinner in London. A chance encounter with a young Australian businessman from Brisbane sparks a night of shared discovery, but the next morning, her gesture of affection is misinterpreted, leaving her with only a single rose and the quiet weight of what might have been. Carlos Prunés delivers the story with expressive, evocative art, capturing the bittersweet tension of a moment that changes everything—without ever revealing where it leads.

Dene, who was trained from a young age to take over her father's business, had been cut off from the rest of the world. But one night while dining alone, she is asked if another man could join her since all the other tables were full. The young Australian businessman from Brisbane makes her forget her work as she discovers London that night with him. He sends her a rose the next morning and she buys every outstanding share of his small trading company to give him as a present. However, he is offended by her gift and thinks she is trying to buy him. She is left with nothing but his rose.
