The fans scream that the fight was a fix and Meg knows they are right. She had fallen in love with Johnny when he was an amateur fighter, but she had never liked the brutality of boxing. When he turned professional and advanced to a fight for the championship, she had told him he had to give up her or boxing and walked out on him. Still she couldn't prevent herself from buying a ticket to the championship fight. Johnny seems on the verge on winning when their eyes meet and Johnny goes down under a soft punch. Meg knows he did it for her.
