“Shroud Over the Mountain [Circles part 3 Conclusion]”

In "Shroud Over the Mountain [Circles part 3 Conclusion]," Usagi Yojimbo faces a quiet but profound moment of truth as Mariko reveals that Jotaro is his son. With a mix of sorrow and resolve, Usagi chooses to step back, pretending he still prefers the life of a ronin to protect Kenichi and Jotaro’s bond. As he journeys on, he shares a cherished lesson from his sensei with Jotaro—and is struck by the small, haunting detail that Jotaro has named his pet tokage "Spot," just like the one who once belonged to Usagi. Written and illustrated by Stan Sakai, this emotionally resonant chapter closes a pivotal arc with warmth, introspection, and a touch of fate’s quiet echo. The cover, also by Stan Sakai, captures the moment’s weight in quiet, expressive detail.

When Usagi tells Mariko he intends to return home she reveals Jotaro is his son. To prevent injury to Kenichi and Jotaro's father-son relationship, Usagi nobly pretends he prefers to be a ronin. Leaving town Usagi shares an early lesson from his sensei with Jotaro and discovers Jotaro has named his pet tokage "Spot" - just like the tokage who was once Usagi's pet.
