“Ransom Part Three”

In "Ransom Part Three," Usagi Yojimbo continues its tense, character-driven saga as Kiyoko breaks free from Hasegawa’s grasp, setting off a chain of revelations and shifting loyalties. With Aoki stepping in to aid Usagi and Yukichi—his own past tied to the same tragedy that claimed Usagi’s master—the stakes deepen in a story where secrets are currency and trust is scarce. Written and drawn by Stan Sakai, with full creative control from pencils to color, this issue delivers quiet intensity and emotional weight, all framed by Sakai’s striking cover art.

Kiyoko frees herself from Hasegawa's bonds. The ronin Aoki assists Usagi and Yukichi against Hasegawa's men, revealing he lost his master in the same battle in which Usagi's master died. Although Hasegawa recovers his lost ledger from the Snitch, Kiyoko steals another ledger. Kitsune resolves to blackmail Hasegawa again, having apparently learned nothing from the ordeal. Usagi and Yukichi part ways with Kitsune and Kiyoko.
