“Tomoe's Story”

In "Tomoe's Story," Usagi Yojimbo returns to Lord Noriyuki's castle with the Geishu bodyguard Tomoe, only to find a murder that defies reason: a trade envoy from Lord Kojima lies dead, and the only clue points to a maid who’s been dead for a decade. Written and illustrated by Stan Sakai, this issue blends quiet tension with a mystery that tests loyalty and truth, all rendered in Sakai’s signature style. The cover, also by Sakai, captures the story’s haunting mood.

Shortly after escaping their enslavement at the territory's edge, Usagi and the Geishu bodyguard Tomoe return to Lord Noriyuki's castle only to be greeted by a savage murder. The victim was a member of a trade delegation sent by Lord Kojima, and all evidence implicates a maid who died ten years ago! Unless Tomoe and the long-eared ronin can solve this mystery, treaty negotiations will dissolve completely and another throat may be clawed out.
