Wandering through feudal Japan, masterless samurai Usagi now encounters a man developing a flying machine. The contraption's design is based on sketches by an Italian visionary, and though Dr. Takenoko has endured many failures in his quest to soar the skies, he now believes that he has perfected a prototype. However, a thief has learned of his endeavors, and plots to murder the good doctor and claim the machine for himself.
