Back in his home province, Usagi is recognized by an innkeeper who also served Lord Mifune. Desperate for money, the innkeeper shares Usagi's identity with samurai who attempt to kill him. Usagi kills the samurai, but the innkeeper stuns him with a rock. Usagi kills the innkeeper when he he tries to kill him himself.
