This anthology issue contains two stories. "Canceled Debt" follows a Korean War veteran named Ray who, burdened by debts from his civilian life, accidentally hits a man with his truck and is shocked to discover the victim's voice—it turns out to be from his past, and Ray believes his debt is literally canceled by fate. "Ring of Smoke" tells of a woman named Joan who feels strangely odd after receiving a mysterious ring, only to discover she has been chosen by an alien race seeking a human family to protect, leading to an encounter with authorities that ends with the family warned to keep quiet about their extraterrestrial contact.

Tailor Gustave Griml has recreated a legendary cloth with crushing power passed down through his family, and he's determined to find a man strong enough to resist it—making police detective Steve Hale an unwilling test subject when Hale investigates strange noises at Griml's shop. Two small-time crooks break into a museum after hours to steal paintings, only to discover the place is inhabited by living statues—including the beautiful Cleota and her father, Emperor Herus—who demand the thieves stand trial before a citizens' court for their crimes. When one of the burglars confesses the truth while the other refuses to cooperate, the supernatural tribunal must decide their fates, leading to a twist that leaves the would-be robbers scrambling to explain the impossible to the museum's night watchman.

Canceled Debt
