During the winter of 1778 Washington's troops are fighting to survive at Valley Forge, and Summer Soldier, one of Tomahawk's Rangers, is unjustly executed for desertion. When Tomahawk objects, he is sentenced to suffer twelve lashes as the Rangers watch in disbelief. Later they are sent out to forage for food and are attacked by renegade Indians who are secretly working with the British Lord Shilling. Upon returning to camp, Tomahawk is inexplicably arrested for attempting to assassinate General Washington.
