Universal Monsters: The Invisible Man #3

James Tynion IV and artist Dani continue their reimagining of the Universal Monsters classic with this unsettling third issue from Image Comics. Dani's cover is a striking feat of anatomical horror — a figure rendered in layers of exposed muscle and nervous system stands at center, its brain and spine luminously visible, while two eerie glowing eyes float in the darkness beside what appears to be a shadowy human silhouette, together capturing the terrifying in-between state of a body caught between presence and absence. Brad Simpson's cool blues and deep pinks give the whole image a visceral, clinical beauty that makes it impossible to look away.
