Uncanny X-Men #17

A bird's-eye view of a cracked, barren landscape sets a quietly unsettling tone for this 2014 entry in Bendis's run, as a group of young mutants — including a figure in a white-and-black outfit scrambling toward the foreground — stands beneath a weathered sign reading "You're in the Middle of Nowhere." Chris Bachalo's cover composition, inked by Tim Townsend, makes striking use of perspective and negative space, placing the team's isolation front and center. If the sign says it all, this issue looks like it puts the new Xavier School students somewhere very far from safe ground.
