The fifth issue of BOOM! Studios' Uncanny Valley serves up an immediately unsettling image: a wide-eyed boy in a green polo shirt lunges forward in alarm, his hands outstretched toward a massive, looming pencil that dwarfs him completely — eraser shavings scattered across the page beneath him. Dave Wachter handles both the pencils and inks on this striking cover, and the stark white background makes the boy's panicked expression and that oversized pencil feel all the more claustrophobic and strange. Writer Tony Fleecs and artist Dave Wachter have crafted something that turns everyday school-supply imagery into something genuinely unnerving.
