Uncanny Avengers #11
Daniel Acuña handles the full interior art on this 2013 Marvel series, but it's John Cassaday's haunting cover that immediately commands attention — Wolverine is pinned spread-eagle against a dark void, his claws driven into what appear to be shattered surfaces on either side, dark liquid streaking downward in a striking, almost cruciform composition. Rick Remender's Uncanny Avengers consistently delivers high-stakes drama for its unity squad of Avengers and X-Men, and this image alone makes clear that issue #11 is not pulling any punches.
