“Umbra”

In "Umbra," forensic expert Askja uncovers a Neanderthal woman’s remains in a glacial cave—wearing a modern designer jacket and killed by a Russian bullet. As she probes the impossible discovery, her investigation deepens into a dangerous web of secrets, complicated by a growing connection with police inspector Freya. With moody, atmospheric art by Mike Hawthorne and a haunting cover by the same, this 2017 mystery blends ancient enigma with modern peril.

Strung out Icelandic forensic tech, Askja, helps uncover a skeleton in the depths of a glacial cave. When she autopsies the remains back at the lab, she discovers that the body was that of a Neanderthal woman who was wearing a modern designer jacket and was shot through the chest with a Russian bullet. As she begins to investigate the mystery (and begins a steamy affair with police inspector, Freya), things turn dangerous when someone blows up the lab.
