Umbra #1
Umbra #1 kicks off with forensic tech Askja uncovering a Neanderthal woman’s skeleton in a glacial cave, only to find her clad in a modern designer jacket and killed by a Russian bullet. As Askja digs into the bizarre case and begins a charged relationship with police inspector Freya, the investigation takes a deadly turn when the lab is destroyed in an explosion. Written by Stephen Murphy and illustrated by Mike Hawthorne, with inks and lettering by Hawthorne and Erik Swanson, the cover by Mike Hawthorne captures the story’s icy, foreboding tone.

When she autopsies the remains back at the lab, she discovers that the body was that of a Neanderthal woman who was wearing a modern designer jacket and was shot through the chest with a Russian bullet.
