Ultimate Wolverine #15
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeIssue #15 serves as the penultimate chapter of the first—and only—ongoing solo Wolverine series set in Marvel's relaunched Ultimate Universe (Earth-6160), making it a structurally significant beat in a line that ran for just two years before its planned conclusion. The issue delivers the payoff to the series-long tension between Magik and Belasco, depicting Illyana Rasputina's decisive and triumphant overthrow of the demon lord who had previously ruled Limbo—a power shift that reshapes the dimensional politics of this corner of the Ultimate Universe heading into its finale. Simultaneously, the issue reactivates Logan's Winter Soldier brainwashing mid-mission, forcing Jean Grey (operating here as Phoenix) to confront and subdue him, underscoring the series' core theme that Logan cannot fully escape the programming his handlers built into him. Together these two narrative threads—Magik seizing Limbo and the Winter Soldier protocol reasserting itself—set the stage directly for the Limbo showdown of issue #16 and its feed into Ultimate Endgame.

Ultimate Wolverine was conceived by writer Chris Condon and artist Alessandro Cappuccio as the first new ongoing series added to the relaunched Ultimate Universe line, debuting in January 2025 roughly one year after titles like Ultimate Spider-Man and Ultimate X-Men launched the imprint. Condon has stated in interviews that the series was originally contracted for 12 issues, but its commercial performance prompted editor Wil Moss—around the time of issue #7 or #8—to commission four additional issues (through #16) to run concurrently with the Ultimate Endgame event. Condon described these final four issues, which include #15, as a 'coda' to his original story rather than a wholesale pivot, and he insisted on Alessandro Cappuccio returning for the extension before agreeing to write it, ensuring visual continuity across the full run.

- Jean Grey is characterized here in her Phoenix capacity, her telepathic/telekinetic abilities being used to subdue the brainwashed Logan—a dynamic that pays off the ongoing tension between their partnership and his weaponized past.
- Variant covers for this issue include a 1:25 Paulo Siqueira variant, a 1:100 Junggeun Yoon variant, and an Ivan Tao variant.
- The Earth-6160 version of Illyana Rasputina/Magik was originally created by Jonathan Hickman and Bryan Hitch (first appearing in Ultimate Invasion #2, 2023); her role as the series' primary antagonist in its final arc was developed by Condon and Cappuccio.
