About this Issue

Issue #14 is the narrative hinge of the 'Kraven's First Hunt' arc in Hickman's Earth-6160 series: it delivers the first meaningful encounter between Richard Parker (Peter's teenage son, operating in the picotech Spider-Man suit) and this universe's Felicia Hardy — a redesigned, younger Black Cat who has inherited her wounded father's Sinister Six seat — planting the seed for one of the run's central relationships. The issue also marks the in-series emergence of Peter Parker's spider-sense as a conscious, combat-applicable ability for the first time, a key step in his belated development into a fully-formed Spider-Man. Structurally, the apparent death of Harry Osborn (noted in Marvel's own continuity records for this issue) upends the two-hero partnership that had defined the series from its opening arc, reshaping the status quo heading into the back half of Hickman's planned 24-issue run. Taken together, those three beats — a new generation's Spider-Man/Black Cat dynamic, a classic power finally unlocked, and a landmark ally removed — make this one of the run's most consequential single issues.

History

This series — the third volume of Ultimate Spider-Man and the launch title of Marvel's revived Ultimate Universe imprint on Earth-6160 — began publication in January 2024, written by Jonathan Hickman and illustrated by Marco Checchetto. Hickman has cited the older, married Peter Parker seen in 'Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse' as a creative touchstone for reimagining the character as a 35-year-old father-of-two rather than a teenager. Issue #14, released February 26, 2025, is entirely a Checchetto issue with the full regular creative team (colorist Matthew Wilson, letterer VC's Cory Petit, editor Wil Moss), part of the 'Family Business' arc that Penguin Random House later collected as Volume 3 of the trade paperback run.

Trivia · 8 facts

  • Published February 26, 2025 (cover-dated April 2025); written by Jonathan Hickman, art and cover by Marco Checchetto, colors by Matthew Wilson, letters by VC's Cory Petit, edited by Wil Moss.
  • First in-series encounter between Richard Parker II (Peter's teenage son, piloting the picotech/AI Spider-Man suit) and Earth-6160 Felicia Hardy (Black Cat); the two reveal their secret identities and ages to each other — seeding the run's central next-generation romance subplot.
  • Earth-6160 Felicia Hardy is established as a teenager (sixteen years old as of this issue) who took up the Black Cat mantle and her father Walter Hardy's place in Kingpin's Sinister Six after Walter was seriously injured in a prior battle with Spider-Man and the Green Goblin.
  • Peter Parker's spider-sense manifests as a consciously perceived and tactically deployed ability for the first time in the series, allowing him to anticipate Kraven's sniper fire during the Savage Land chase sequence.
  • Harry Osborn (Earth-6160 Green Goblin) is listed as suffering an 'apparent death' in this issue — a major status-quo disruption to the Spider-Man/Green Goblin partnership central to the series' premise.
  • The issue is part of 'Kraven's First Hunt,' the arc in which Kingpin's lieutenant Kraven the Hunter has held Peter and Harry captive in the subterranean Savage Land (located beneath Staten Island in this continuity) while Mole Man, Mysterio, and the broader Sinister Six pursue competing agendas.
  • This is the 14th issue of Hickman's planned 24-issue run; Hickman confirmed at SDCC 2025 that the series conclusion at issue #24 was always part of his original pitch and that no story elements deviated from his initial plan.
  • The series — and by extension this issue — is part of Marvel's second Ultimate Universe imprint (Earth-6160), the first ongoing title in that line, launched following the 'Ultimate Invasion' miniseries that re-established the alternate universe.
