History

The series was announced at New York Comic Con in October 2023 as part of Jonathan Hickman's architecturally planned relaunch of the Ultimate Universe, with writer Bryan Edward Hill — already known for his 2018 Killmonger miniseries — and artist Stefano Caselli, who had recently contributed to the oversized Ultimate Universe #1 one-shot, forming the core creative team. Editor Wilson Moss shepherded the book, with David Curiel on colors and VC's Cory Petit on letters; the series was positioned as the second ongoing title of the new imprint, launching one month after Ultimate Spider-Man and one month before Ultimate X-Men. Issue #1's strong sales prompted Marvel to order a second printing featuring new cover art by R.B. Silva, meaning that second printing was already in shops when #2 hit stands on March 13, 2024 — an unusual launch-window circumstance that amplified early reader attention on the run.
