In "The Toss of a Coin," Peter Parker’s quiet evening takes a dangerous turn when Aunt May, worried he’s unwell, puts him to bed—just as the Kangaroo evades federal agents and accidentally steals a vial of deadly bacteria, mistaking it for money. When Peter sneaks out to stop him, he succeeds, but returns to find Aunt May collapsed, believing the web-swinging dummy he left behind was him. Written by Stan Lee and John Romita, with dynamic art by John Buscema and Jim Mooney, this 1970 issue captures Peter’s growing burden with quiet intensity. The cover by Harold Johns perfectly frames the tension, a moment of suspense before the storm.
