“The Man from the Panhandle”

In "The Man from the Panhandle," Peter Parker’s quiet day takes a sharp turn when Aunt May, worried he’s unwell, puts him to bed—just as the Kangaroo, fleeing federal agents, steals what he believes is money, only to discover it’s a vial of deadly bacteria. When Peter sneaks out to stop him, he succeeds, but returns to find Aunt May collapsed after discovering the web-suit dummy he left behind. Written by Stan Lee and John Romita, with art by John Buscema and Jim Mooney, and a cover by Harold Johns, this 1970 issue captures Spider-Man at his most vulnerable—caught between duty and the weight of protecting the people he loves.
