Planeten Akbar är i överhängande fara. När demonguden Ramor släpps fri ur sin fångenskap, kommer ondskan snart att härska överallt. Trollkvinnan Mara känner till en förbannelse som kan hålla Ramor fängslad för evigt. Men hon behöver tid. Och det kan bara tidsfågeln ge henne. Hur ska hon få tag i den? Tillsammans med Maras dotter Roxanna ger sig den gamle riddar Bragon ut i för att söka efter Tidsfågeln. Kanske är Roxanna även Bragons dotter \Z han får inget rakt svar från vare sig mor eller dotter. Första delen av uppdraget för dem till trollkarlen Shang-Thung, där de lyckas stjäla Ramors snäcka. Bragon konfronteras också med sin forne elev Bulrog, och sällskapet undsätts av den mystiske maskerade riddar Okänd.
