True Love Problems and Advice Illustrated #25
In "I Stand Accused," a 1954 Harvey gem, Linda grapples with a deep-seated longing for affection shaped by her father’s abandonment. When her first true love, Bill, leaves on a business trip, her emotional vulnerability resurfaces, leading her into a cycle of fleeting relationships. Bob Powell’s expressive art captures the story’s raw emotional core, while Al Avison’s cover delivers a striking, period-perfect portrait of the turmoil within.

Linda has a psychological need for men’s affection, rooted in her childhood, when her father abandoned her mother. She meets Bill and falls in love for the first time, but when he is sent away on a long business trip, she relapses into her promiscuous ways, “man after man, date after date.” Bill returns and is angry when he hears of her behavior, but changes his mind when she explains how she got “this terrible disease of mine.” They will be married and this will solve her need for love.
