True Life Love Library #50-36
In "Test of Love," Ellen journeys from afar to marry Tom, a widower she connected with through a lonely hearts ad—only to find his isolation rooted in a painful past. When a barn fire tests their community’s loyalty, long-held suspicions are challenged, and Tom begins to see the people around him in a new light. A quiet, character-driven story from 1970, lettered with care by Ben Oda.

Ellen travels to Texas to marry Tom, a widower she met through a magazine's lonely hearts ad. They are happy at first, but Tom refuses to let Ellen socialise with any of their neighbours. He refuses to explain at first, then tells her that he blames the others for his first wife’s death--she was accidentally killed after arguing with Tom about her social life. When the barn catches fire, the neighbours all arrive to help Tom save his ranch, and he realises he judged them unfairly. He promises to change his ways.
