When Joe's father asks how much money she wants to stop seeing his son, Denise is indignant. Denise is fired by Scarden, but is even more determined to continue seeing Joe. Gavin tells Denise that he has also been fired by Scarden, but has actually been tasked to win Denise away from Joe. Denise starts seeing more of Gavin when Joe is unavailable. Ultimately, Denise's mind is made up when Joe is unwilling to stand up to his father and Gavin thrashes the two thugs Boss Scarden sends after him to teach him a lesson for backing out of their arrangement.
