“Call of the Heart”

"Call of the Heart" in True Life Library #289 (1961) is a quietly powerful story from Ramón Torrents, whose art and inks bring emotional weight to a moment of sudden collision—both literal and emotional. When a small motor-boat crashes into an anchored launch, Jane watches in helpless silence as two men barely escape, only to be drawn into her life when she offers them shelter. What she doesn’t know is that the older man is her long-lost father, separated from her mother eighteen years before, unaware of the child he left behind.

A small motor-boat collides with a launch lying at anchor and the men on board barely make it to shore as Jane watches helplessly. She invites the two strangers to come home with her to change into some dry clothes. She and the older man have no way of knowing that he is her father. He had left Jane's mother eighteen years earlier without knowing that she was expecting a child.
