“British Columbia Pacific Gateway of Canada”

"British Columbia Pacific Gateway of Canada" offers a slice of mid-20th-century Americana with a touch of seaside tension, as young Chuck finds himself at odds with the disgruntled Spike after a stolen fishing reel sets off a chain of events. Written by Max Pine and illustrated by Fran Matera, the story unfolds aboard Mr. Parker’s vessel with a quiet but charged moment when Chuck’s duffle bag is tripped—leaving the outcome uncertain as Parker watches closely. The cover, by Frank Borth, captures the scene’s subtle drama with a 1964 flair.

Mr. Parker apologises to Chuck for Spike having cut his fishing line and allow his fish to escape. Spike gets fired after Chuck tells Parker that Spike stole an expensive reel from Mr. Parker and has been trying to sell it. Spike vows to get even with Chuck. Parker's son suggests that Chuck be hired as skipper for the upcoming fishing tournament. As Chuck brings his duffle bag and equipment onto Mr. Parker's ship, Spike intentionally trips Chuck and Mr. Parker watches curiously as it appears that a fight between the two men is likely.
