Treasure Chest of Fun and Fact #2 [248]
"Chapter Two" offers a quiet, character-driven moment in the lives of young friends, capturing the frustration of being too old for kid stuff and too young for grown-up freedom. Written by Max Pine and illustrated by Frank Borth, this slice-of-life story follows Mike Kelly as he searches for a break—only to be met with chores, restrictions, and the looming threat of a storm. The cover by Syl Sowinski perfectly captures the mood, with a rainy night and a boy staring out at a world that seems to have no room for him.

He tries to hang out with Dutch and his friends, but when they go into a bar, the bartender won't allow him in, because he's still a minor. The ham radio just has static tonight due to the rainy weather. Mike gets called into work in the morning to help on the levee. There's danger of flooding and lots more rain is expected.
