The Carter family owns a cattle ranch out west. It's lonely and the prospect of having company is always a great event. A letter arrives announcing that cousin Frumson is arriving today for a visit. Cousin Frumson has a reputation among the family as being a colorful character, having fought pirates, trained elephants in the circus and once won a great athletic contest. When he finally arrives, his appearance doesn't match up to their expectations of him. He's short, overweight and dressed in a Swiss mountain climber's outfit.
