Transmetropolitan issue nine from 1998 arrives under the Helix/DC banner with a cover by Darick Robertson that crackles with chaotic energy — a heavily tattooed, grinning bald man leaps triumphantly over a pile of kilt-wearing, wild-bearded brawlers, a gleaming cityscape rising in the background. The "Late Edition" newspaper-style banner and the story title "Wild in the Country" suggest a collision between urban civilization and something decidedly more feral. Warren Ellis's sharp writing paired with Robertson's kinetic linework makes this a series that clearly has no interest in playing it safe.
