In a separate storyline, a bearded man named Sam attempts to protect a child from rival adversaries, leading to a chemical explosion triggered by Sam's beard flame. The issue concludes with the introduction of Prince and other magical characters who offer to rescue the captive characters, as advertised for the December issue of Toytown Comics.
Mertie Mouse spots a way to strike it rich: he convinces Wordless Waddles, a fellow with surprising strength, to become a prizefighter—and arranges a high-stakes match between the underdog and the current champion. But when the criminal mastermind The Brain escapes from prison, he hatches a scheme to fix the fight and clean up on the wagers, setting the stage for a showdown neither Mertie nor Wordless sees coming.
