The story begins when a convoy is caught in a Pacific fog, and Jack must contend with criminals, a giant dragon creature, and winged humanoid beings called Hawkmen. Jack works to stop the villains Bosco and Lotho from activating machinery that would allow them to control a mysterious island and its monstrous inhabitants, ultimately helping to defeat the Hawkmen and rescue prisoners from the island.
A mysterious figure materializes from a playing card to wage war on crime, and when a dying man's final request sends the Jack of Spades to investigate a stolen sapphire and murder in an Oriental curio shop, he finds himself caught between ruthless thieves, a dangerous Persian criminal, and a woman in peril. With criminals closing in and the police on his trail, the Jack of Spades must untangle a web of deception and betrayal to protect the innocent and bring the guilty to justice.
In the wartime skies of 1944, a squadron of army nurses aboard the Albatross becomes the target of a sinister aerial threat when they're seized by the Hawkmen. Their captor, the ruthless Mercuro, plans to transform them into his twisted Hawkwomen—until the mysterious Jack of Spades arrives to thwart his scheme.
