The main story, "The Long Black Line," features Scot Jackson and the Rod Masters in a tale involving hot-rodding and scheming rivals. A villainous character in a red cape and headwrap, Ben Ali, uses flattery and manipulation to separate Scot Jackson from his friends, then imprisons him with plans to make him work as a servant while keeping him mentally subdued through overfeeding and control. Scot's friends discover his absence and work to locate and rescue him, determined to save their companion regardless of the cost.

Young Marv's hot rod is destroyed in a high-speed crash, but fortune smiles when his father trades his sensible family sedan for a used Chevrolet—the same model that belongs to Buzz Carlson, an Air Force pilot who's moved on to faster machines. What Marv doesn't know is that Buzz's car has a secret history of winning at the drag strip, and when Marv takes it to the local track, he discovers the potential hidden under its plain exterior. As he tinkers with the engine and races against increasingly tough competition, Marv learns that sometimes the best machines are the ones nobody expects.

Bronc Buster

A young mechanic and his dad's partner soup up a Ford Bronco with a bigger engine and dual carburetors, turning the family's practical ranch vehicle into a surprisingly nimble dragstrip competitor. When Barney takes the modified Bronco to the dig yard to settle some scores with rival drivers, he discovers that raw power isn't always the answer—and his father's unexpected new ride might just teach him a humbling lesson about staying hungry.
