The space ship Discovery's mission is to find and chart the center of the universe. First Officer Andersen is soon afflicted with physical alterations which he believes are due to their course but the Captain refuses to turn back. The Medical Officer tells them that Andersen is evolving. The Captain begins to change like Andersen but by the time he reaches the controls he no longer cares about turning the ship. The humans on the ship all become energy merging with the infinite cosmos. The last being left on the ship documents the changes before he too evolves.
