In "Prøven," Johnny Thunder tracks down three outlaws in the frontier hills, drawing the quiet admiration of a young Cheyenne boy, Swift Deer, who longs to follow in his hero’s footsteps. Donning his father’s war bonnet and shirt, the boy ventures into the wild, only to be caught in a buffalo stampede—where he surprises even himself by using swift arrows to save the day. Johnny, though, reminds him that true bravery isn’t in the clothes, but in the heart, unaware that he himself is no more than a schoolteacher playing the part of a legend.
