In "Prøven," Johnny Thunder tracks down three outlaws in the rugged hills, his reputation as a frontier hero growing with each capture. A young Cheyenne boy, Swift Deer, watches from afar, inspired to follow in Johnny’s footsteps—dressed in his father’s worn shirt and war bonnet, though the headgear keeps slipping over his eyes. When a buffalo stampede threatens the boy, Johnny rushes to save him, only to find Swift Deer has already shown courage by fending off the thugs with swift arrows. Afterward, Johnny tells the boy, “A warrior’s clothes do not make a brave,” though he quietly wonders if he, too, is just a schoolteacher pretending to be a legend.
