To Love Ru #1-2
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeThis omnibus collects the first two volumes of the original To Love Ru manga, introducing the chaotic life of high school student Yuuki Rito after an encounter with the alien princess Lala Satalin Deviluke. The story blends romantic comedy and sci-fi hijinks as Rito navigates his feelings for his crush Haruna Sairenji while dealing with Lala's outlandish inventions and the arrival of other extraterrestrial characters. Featuring art and story by Saki Hasemi and Kentaro Yabuki, this edition kicks off the series that launched a beloved franchise of sequels and spin-offs.
In "Trouble 1: The Girl Who Came from the Sky," Rito and Lala face the Test of Courage alongside other couples, only to find most fleeing in fear—especially when Saruyama abandons his partner, Haruna. Stuck together in the maze, Rito finds Haruna hiding, and though Lala finds the monsters amusing, she unleashes a holographic scare machine that sends everyone running—leaving just the trio to reach the finish line. As they stand together, Rito can't help but wonder how three people could possibly be a "fated couple." Written by Saki Hasemi, Kentaro Yabuki handles both art and inks, with lettering by Paweł Szczęszek and additional writing by J. P. Sullivan and Alex Gaspard. The cover, by Kentaro Yabuki and Nicky Lim, captures the moment with bold, expressive flair.

As Rito and Lala take their turn on the Test of Courage, they see many of the pairs running back in fright. Saruyama has abandoned his partner Haruna. Rito finds Haruna, hiding in fear, and she sticks close to him. Lala thinks the monsters are funny looking. She creates a machine to display even scarier monster holograms, which frighten away everybody, even the costumed staff. Only Rito, Lala and Haruna make it to the end. Rito wonders how 3 people can be a "fated couple".
