Tim Holt faces danger when a great stallion named Lightning, whom he has tamed, becomes trapped in a burning cabin in the mountains. After rescuing the horse, Tim discovers that outlaws are paying someone to drive him off his ranch and steal his water rights. Tim and his companion Bob join a citizen's committee to investigate the rustlers, learning that the ringleader is a man named Don Miguel, also known as the Spur. Tim and Bob pursue the outlaws on horseback toward their hideout in cliff dwellings, planning a two-pronged attack to capture them and recover the stolen sheriff's badge that proves the Spur's identity.
