History

The Dynamite ThunderCats series grew out of a landmark licensing partnership between Dynamite Entertainment and Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products, announced at New York Comic Con in October 2023. Writer-artist Declan Shalvey and artist Drew Moss — both self-described ThunderCats super-fans — were named as the core creative team, with Jeff Eckleberry on letters and Nate Cosby as editor. When the regular creative team needed a breather between arcs, Dynamite brought in guest creator Stephen Mooney (known for Half Past Danger and The Rocketeer: The Great Race) to write and draw issue #5 as a standalone character piece, a production approach that allowed the main team to maintain monthly shipping while delivering a thematically coherent interlude.
