Three figures — a white-haired woman, a powerfully built man, and a red-haired woman — stand battered and defiant at the center of a swirling, lightning-laced vortex of crimson energy, surrounded by crumbling urban wreckage. The concentric rings framing them suggest they're caught squarely in someone's crosshairs, making "Storm Clouds Gathering" feel like a very apt title. Patrick Zircher and Al Vey deliver a cover with real atmospheric dread, and with Fabian Nicieza at the helm, this 2001 chapter of Thunderbolts promises the kind of morally complex superhero drama the series does so well.
