Thunderbolts #109
Three diminutive heroes swarm across the massive, anguished face of a towering red-skinned figure — one clad in orange and silver strikes from above, another in gold presses against the cheek, while a third in gold and blue grapples at the chin, all of them tangled in cascading waves of auburn hair. It's a genuinely striking composition from penciler Tom Grummett and inker Gary Erskine, capturing an overwhelming sense of scale and desperate struggle in a single image. Fabian Nicieza's run on Thunderbolts was reliably full of moral complexity, and issue #109's story title — "Beyond Redemption" — hints that the tension on this cover runs deeper than just a physical fight.
