Thorgal faces one of his most unsettling challenges yet in this 1999 Le Lombard release, "De blauwe ziekte" — the twenty-fifth chapter of the beloved Belgian series by Jean Van Hamme and Grzegorz Rosiński. The cover, painted with brooding atmosphere by Rosiński, shows the lone Viking wanderer crouching amid tangled roots in a murky swamp, an enormous dark tentacled creature looming over him from the shadowy water behind. It's a beautifully rendered image of vulnerability against something vast and unknowable, perfectly capturing the eerie, mythic tone that has made Thorgal one of Europe's most enduring adventure series.
