The Westerner Comics #17

This issue features multiple western stories. "Black Bill" Desmond tells of a dangerous bandit who robbed mail for the Wells Fargo Company and specialized in robbery carried by the Pony Express. The main story, "The Story of Davy Crockett," depicts Davy as a Congressional candidate who, lacking money for campaign festivities, hunts a raccoon to trade its pelt for whiskey to entertain voters. A vigilante sequence shows armed men in ambush preparing to confront approaching bandits at Dutch Gap, with gunfire exchanged and the outlaws defeated, recovering gold dust from their camp.
