Issue four of this twelve-part DC series keeps the prehistoric tension alive as a massive, snarling ceratopsian dinosaur looms over two figures — a leather-jacketed soldier and a goggled woman in a sleek bodysuit — caught face-to-face with the beast in a lush, primeval jungle. Russ Heath's cover rendering is a treat, full of tactile detail from the creature's horned, rough-hewn hide to the brittle anxiety in the two humans bracing against the encounter. With Bruce Jones writing, Al Barrionuevo and Jimmy Palmiotti on interior art, and the promise of "soldiers from the past and future" thrown together on a lost island, The War That Time Forgot continues to be one of 2008's more imaginative genre mashups.
