The Unwritten #14
Peter Gross and Mike Carey's Eisner-nominated series The Unwritten reaches its fourteenth issue with a cover by Yuko Shimizu that perfectly captures the series' obsession with the power of stories: a young dark-haired man in a red jacket is caught in a sea of readers, all rendered in cool blue tones and absorbed in identical red-covered books, while he alone seems aware — and unsettled — by the tide of literary devotion surrounding him. The contrast between his vivid, fleshed-out presence and the crowd's almost spectral uniformity makes for a quietly unsettling image that speaks volumes about what it means to be at the center of a cultural myth. "Dead Man's Knock - Atrocities" promises the same blend of literary intrigue and unease that earned this Vertigo series three Eisner nominations.
