The Unwritten #13

From the Vertigo imprint and nominated for three Eisner Awards, The Unwritten #13 (2010) brings writer Mike Carey and artist Peter Gross together for "Dead Man's Knock - Monsters." The cover by Yuko Shimizu is a striking composition: a young man's brooding face emerges from towering stacks of red books, framed by Big Ben and a whirl of balloon-headed figures trailing banners that read "The New Tommy Taylor Out Now," with stars and confetti scattered across a dark sky. It's a wonderfully layered image that captures the series' central tension between literary mythology and something far more unsettling lurking just beneath the surface.
